Plowing season 2014

dicembre 7, 2014 at 8:47 am

Despite the ongoing expansions of Israeli illegal outposts and the restrictions on accessing Palestinian owned lands inflicted by the Israeli civil administration, Palestinians successfully plowed their lands in the South Hebron Hills.

During the last few weeks Palestinian families gathered on their own lands to plow with tractors or donkeys. Palestinians from At Tuwani and Tuba villages plowed the lands surrounding Havat Ma’on Israeli illegal outpost, that during the month of November expanded with 25 iron pylons hammered in the ground rounding the border of the outpost.

Palestinians from Al Mufaqarah plowed the lands nearby Avigayil Israeli illegal outpost. On December 3, Israeli soldiers came twice toward the Palestinians and prevented them from working saying they were not allowed to plow that land. Palestinians asked Israeli soldiers to call the DCO and check their right to plow there. When DCO arrived on the place, Palestinians could prove they were allowed to work. On December 4, Israeli soldiers again came on the place and argued with International volunteers on the right of Palestinians to work the same land, but Palestinians kept on working without stopping for the presence of the army.

Palestinians from Jawwaya village had to wait the permission of the DCO in order to plow the land in front of Ma’on Israeli settlement’s entrance. That Palestinian owned land was declared a closed military area by the Israeli army on the spring of 2013 after different episodes of violence perpetuated by Israeli settlers toward Palestinians . On December 3, Palestinians could plow while Israeli soldiers and DCO officers monitored the all work.

“Plowing our own lands despite the violent policies of the Israeli civil administration, aimed to prevent us from accessing our basic resources, is an act of resistance in this area” says a member of the South Hebron Hills Popular Committee.

At-Tuwani, November 23, 2014

On November 23 Israeli settlers from Havat Ma’on hammered in the ground three meters high iron pylons at the edge of the wood inside of which the illegal Israeli outpost is located, keeping on the ongoing expansion.
Some days before, on November 13, the same settlers (equipped with a white jeep carrying an electricity generator, a drill and cement) had already dug 10 cm diameter holes in the surrounding boundary.

In both occasions South Hebron Hills Popular Committee members and B’tselem operators called the DCO to denounce the illegal works, but Israeli forces didn’t show up.

During the last month in the South Hebron Hills area, Israeli forces carried out several demolitions in the Palestinian village of Um Al Kher and seized materials in the Palestinian village of Susiya. In the meanwhile they have not taken any measure to stop an illegal expansion of an illegal Israeli outpost.

Nevertheless the Palestinian communities of the South Hebron Hills area are still strongly committed to nonviolent popular resistance against the Israeli occupation.

New water tanks were needed to provide Palestinian inhabitants drinkable water.

November 21, 2014
At Tuwani – On November 20, the Israeli forces seized a tractor, its truck, four water tanks and three tanks’ bases from the Palestinian village of Susiya.
In the early morning DCO officers approached the Palestinian village to take pictures of the ongoing works to install four new water tanks. In the early afternoon DCO officers returned with Israeli army, police, two trucks, one of which with a mechanical arm.

The tractor and its truck, that carried water cisterns and their bases, were seized with the accuse of being used for illegal works, since Palestinians didn’t have permissions to install new water tanks. Tanks and bases were seized without any previous issued demolition order under the pretext that they were not yet installed on the ground.
Water tanks were geared of filters to provide drinkable water and were donated to the Palestinian village because of the lack of drinkable water that effects all the South Hebron Hills area.

The Palestinian village of Susiya is located in area C, under Israeli military and civil administration, and it is surrounded by the Israeli settlement of Suseya, the outpost of Suseya’s Ancient Synagogue and the military base of Suseya North. Around the settlement and the military base there are 26 wells and water cisterns that Palestinians are forbidden to use even if they are on Palestinian private proprieties. Even more, DCO doesn’t allow Palestinian residents of Susiya to connect to Israeli Makorot Company’s water pipes that run right through the Palestinian village and bring water from the settlement of Suseya to the outpost of Ancient Synagogue.

Palestinian residents of Susiya pay 35 NIS per cubic meter of tanked water, six times more than the nearby settlement, which is served by the network. Water consumption of Palestinians in Susiya is 28 liters/capita/day, significantly less than the 70 l/c/d consumed by an average Palestinian and well below the World Health Organization standard of 100 l/c/d. (source OCHA OPT)

The Palestinian inhabitants of Susiya are struggling through the nonviolent popular resistance in order to gain the right to access their own lands and to live a dignified life.

Update: Military escort endangered schoolchildren two times this week.

novembre 14, 2014 at 9:22 am

On october 12 and 13 the military escort left schoolchildren waiting for one hour in a dangerous place between Ma’on Israeli settlement and Havat Ma’on illegal outpost. Furthermore, in both occasions the escort left the children alone nearby the outpost, without completing the path.

Every day after school children wait at a dangerous meeting point for the Israeli military escort that since 10 years accompanies schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir Al Abeed to and from school.

Since the beginning of the school year the escort was not present in two occasions, forcing the children to walk via a longer and still dangerous way. Between the 15 schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir Al Abeed there are two 6 years old children who just began 1st grade and for whom is very hard to walk through the one hour  and half long way.

Update: IDF demolishes for the third time and seizes building materials in the Beduin village of Um Al Kher, South Hebron Hills

novembre 6, 2014 at 5:35 pm

On October 5 at 4 p.m. a convoy of Israeli forces, with a truck carrying a bulldozer, entered the Beduin village of Um Al Kher. Israeli soldiers, riot squad policemen and DCO officers proceeded to demolish the traditional oven that had already been demolished twice on the previous week and twice re-built by Palestinian inhabitants of the village together with the South Hebron Hills Popular Committee.

The bulldozer was meant to demolish two new tents that Palestinian inhabitants of the village and Israeli activists built on the previous Saturday in response to the five houses and the kitchen demolished on October 27. However, Palestinians had already dismantled the structures after the threats received on November 2 from DCO officers, as a consequence Israeli forces seized all the building materials needed for the new tents.

At 4:20 p.m., when the Israeli convoy was about to leave, three International volunteers were violently brought to Kiryat Arba police station and detained until late night, with the accuse of having being in a closed military area.

……….
