“AS WE PROMISED, WE’LL NEVER FORGET YOU”

to Rachel, Vittorio, Tom, Angelo.

(italian follows)

The South Hebron Hills Popular Committee and the Women of the South Hebron Hills invite you to join us in order to celebrate and remember the lives of Rachel Corrie, Vittorio Arrigoni, Tom Hurndall and Angelo Frammartino on June 13 in At Tuwani village.

We will create a memorial made by stones and olive trees from South Hebron Hills. With this “Freedom Garden” we want to honor the four peace activists.

Rachel, Vittorio, Tom and Angelo came to Palestine with hearts filled of love for our country. They were taken from us when we had only just begun to walk together the road for freedom. The same road that the Palestinian are walking through every day . They have left with us the strength and power of their passion for freedom, and they will walk among us forever. Now their hearts beat within our own hearts. They are the sun that continues to shine upon us. Their love for all humanity shines brightly still, and cleanses our minds and hearts of the fear and animosity that would divide us from one another. Their courage and the sacrifice of their lives feeds us as we struggle towards the principles for which they died. Angelo Frammartino, Rachel Corrie, Vittorio Arrigoni and Tom Hurndall are alive within us.

This is an open invitation for Palestinians, Israelis and Internationals and a special invitation for the families of Rachel Corrie, Vittorio Arrigoni, Tom Hurndall and Angelo Frammartino, martyrs in the struggle for freedom.

UPDATE: Two episodes of harassment against Palestinians

maggio 3, 2015 at 11:25 am

P1080378

On may 2,  a group of 4 adult settlers (one of them armed) harassed one Palestinian with his son, while they were going back home through Humra valley. The settlers waited for them in a close military area for Israeli. The Palestinians decided to call OD volunteers who accompanied them until Meshaha Valley. When the Internationals arrived, the settlers moved to Palestinian village of Kharrouba (that was evicted in 1999) and entered caves and houses.

In the past two days another episode of harassment took place.

On may 1,  2 Palestinians (a 6 years old child, with his sister) were harassed and chased by settlers, while they were going back home to the Palestinian village of Tuba. When Palestinians accompanied by OD volunteers arrived near Shab el Shamsti a group of 6 settlers started to scream and run towards them. The Palestinians got scared and escaped in order to reach a safer place.

This is an alarming trend because the ongoing settlers’ harassment of Palestinians and damage of Palestinian property increases the difficulties and the dangers that inhabitants of South Hebron Hills have to face daily, living under Israeli occupation in area “C”.

Israeli police seize a Palestinian man’s car

March 25, 2015
At Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

This morning, the Israeli police seized a Palestinian man’s car permanently because he was driving on the Bypass Road 317 without the Israeli authorization, which is very expensive and difficult to obtain.
The networks of Israeli bypass roads are built in order to isolate Palestinian cities and villages, restricting in this way their freedom of movement.
The Palestinian decided to burn the verbal of the seizure in front of the police men as a clear signal of protest against unjust Israeli law.

At Tuwani – Colline a sud di Hebron, Cisgiordania

P/R: Six years old Palestinian girl injured by Israeli settlers in the South Hebron Hills

PRESS RELEASE

Six years old Palestinian girl injured by Israeli settlers in the South Hebron Hills

Settlers violence continue to target Palestinian children

(Italian follows)

March 22, 2015

At Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

P1070583On the afternoon of March 21, two settlers attacked two Palestinian girls, throwing stones to them and injuring a six years old child.

At around 3.20 pm, three Palestinian girls were collecting some herbs for family’s livestock in the nearby of the Palestinian village of Tuba. Two masked settlers coming from the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on ran after the girls and threw stones to them, hitting a six years old child in the head and leg. The stones injured the little girl that was treated at the scene by an Israeli military doctor, almost two hours later. The little girl and his uncle went to Kyriat Arba police station in order to make a complaint against the settlers. Then the wounded girl was taken in the local medical clinic of Yatta where she was treated with four stitches to the wound on her head.

Palestinian residents of the South Hebron hills have suffered from the presence of Israeli settlers since the 70s. By occupying Palestinian agricultural lands and destroying Palestinian olive trees, crops and property the settlers seek to deprive the Palestinians of their main livelihood. Ongoing settler violence deprives Palestinian families of security in daily life, and restricts their freedom of movement.

On the same day, groups of settlers walked through Palestinian lands in this area, harassing shepherds and international volunteers during all day long.

Twelve days ago, three masked settler children coming from the same illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, threw stones towards Palestinians children that were collecting herbs in Meshaha Valley, not so far from where the Palestinian girls were attacked. Four years ago, on the same day, the father of the little girl injured was stabbed by an Havat Ma’on settler in his arm and stomach while he was going to the village of At-Tuwani.

Despite attempts by settlers to force them from the area through violence and intimidation, the Palestinian communities of the South Hebron Hills remain strong in their commitment to nonviolent popular resistance against the Israeli occupation.

Operation Dove has maintained an international presence in At-Tuwani and the South Hebron Hills since 2004.

Most settlement outposts, including Havat Ma’on (Hill 833), are considered illegal also under Israeli law.]

COMUNICATO STAMPA

22 marzo 2015

At Tuwani – Colline a sud di Hebron, Cisgiordania

Israeli military escort fails to guarantee safe passage to children attending school in At Tuwani village

(Italian follows)

March 10, 2015

At Tuwani – On the afternoon of March 9 the Israeli military escort failed to arrive in At Tuwani village to escort the schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed Palestinian villages home on the road between Ma’on settlement and the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. International volunteers made multiple calls to the army but were told that the soldiers could not be reached.  After waiting for 45 minutes the children decided to take the long path home with the internationals.

On this occasion the children arrived home safely, at about 3:00 pm.  However, about 30 minutes later as the International volunteers were returning to At Tuwani on the same path they witnessed three settler children attacking Palestinian children who were collecting herbs on Palestinian land near Havat Ma’on. The settler children had their faces covered, and one was using a slingshot to fire stones at the Palestinians.  The Palestinians moved away, and there were no consequences for the settlers.

This is the fifth time since the start of 2015 that the Israeli military has failed to escort the schoolchildren from the Palestinian villages of Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed.  On each occasion the children have traveled the long path, which passes near the outpost of Havat Ma’on.  As the presence of masked settler youth on March 9 shows, this path is also dangerous, and the children are forced to expose themselves to the possibility of settler violence in order to move between their homes and their school in At Tuwani village.

Israeli settlers cut 36 olive trees in the South Hebron Hills

This is the third Israeli settler’s “price tag” in the last 2 months in the area

February 21, 2015

At-Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

p1060765On the morning of February 20, Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills awoke to find that 36 olive trees had been cut or seriously damaged during the night, probably by Israeli settlers.  The 25 year-old trees, owned by Hushiy family from Yatta, were located near the village of Qawawis, in the South Hebron Hills, between the Israeli illegal outpost of Mitzpe Yair and the Israeli settlement of Suseya, beside Bypass road 317.

This is the third incident of Israeli settler ‘price tag’ vandalism against the Palestinian inhabitants of the South Hebron Hills in the last two months. On January 9, in the same area  between the Bypass road 317 and Suseya settlement,Palestinians discovered nearly 200 olive trees cut on their property  (read more). On December 31, two settlers threw a molotov cocktail into a Palestinian house in Ad Deirat village (read more).

P/R: Israeli settlers destroyed 200 olive trees in the South Hebron Hills

gennaio 10, 2015 at 2:06 pm

This is the second Israeli settler’s “price tag” in the last 10 days in the area

(Italian follows)

img_0749_800

January 10, 2015

At-Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

On January 9, in the morning, Palestinians found 40 olive trees and 3 almond trees seriously damaged probably by Israeli settlers. In the afternoon, other inhabitants of the South Hebron Hills discovered about 150 olive trees cut and seriously damaged.

At about 10 a.m. some Palestinians from the Awad and Abu ‘Aram families discovered on their properties several 32 year-old olive trees and three almond trees cut. These trees were located near the village of Qawawis, in the South Hebron Hills area, between the Israeli illegal outpost of Mitzpe Yair and the Israeli settlement of Suseya, beside the Bypass road 317.

At about 2:35 p.m. another oversized destruction was discovered in the same area, between the Bypass road 317 and Suseya settlement. Due to bad weather conditions, neither the Israeli police nor the Palestinian owners have been able to verify the exact number of olive trees damaged. One of the 16 Palestinian owners, all from the Shatat family, estimated in about 150 the number of olive trees damaged.

This is the second Israeli settler’s ‘price tag’ against the Palestinian inhabitants of the South Hebron Hills in the last 10 days. On December 31, as witnessed by Palestinians, at about 3:00 am two settlers wrote with black spray near the front door of a Palestinian’s house in the village of Ad-Deirat this sentence: “Revenge of Jewish Kingdom“. Then, settlers broke a window and threw a molotov cocktail inside the house (read more).

Palestinians in South Hebron hills have suffered the Israeli settlers’ presence since the 70s. The settlers, occupying Palestinian-owned lands and destroying their properties, deprive the Palestinians of their main livelihood. Moreover the settlers, with their ongoing violence, prevent Palestinians from having a regular daily life and restrict their freedom of movement, thus forcing them to leave the South Hebron hills area.

Nevertheless the Palestinian communities of the South Hebron Hills area are still strongly committed to nonviolent popular resistance against the Israeli occupation.

Operation Dove has maintained an international presence in At-Tuwani and South Hebron Hills since 2004.
