The 29 of August marked another day of settlers violence and Israeli Army negligence in the South Hebron Hills.

On the early morning two Israeli settlers went out from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on and chased the Operation Dove volunteers in the area, preventing them to arrive at the spot, in which the children from Tuba wait the military escort.

In the afternoon the schoolchildren had to wait the Israeli soldiers for 1 hour and 15 minutes in order to come back home safely.

Few hours later two young Palestinians (accompanied by Operation Doves volunteers) were attacked by a Israeli settler on the way to Tuba village.

The settler went out from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on and chased them, trowing stones with the slingshot. The two Palestinian were forced to run to reach safely Tuba.

On August 30 in the afternoon the schoolchildren from Tuba had to wait one hour to come back home. The Israeli soldiers exposed them in a dangerous place, near the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on.

August 28 is the first day of school in Palestine: for the 12th year in a row the schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed are coming to school in At Tuwani and going back home, escorted by the Israeli army.

Even in the first day of the school year the military escort was late: 5 children (age 6/16) was forced to wait one hour in a dangerous place, near the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. The settlers from this outpost in the last school year used violence against the Palestinian children during their journey to school for 5 times.

OD volunteers tried to arrive at the spot to wait with the children the military escort, but some settlers prevented them to use the road to the Palestinian village of Tuba. The volunteers had to take a longer path to reach the children, and in their way back two settlers chase them.

In the last school year 47% of the times children from Tuba and Maghayr al Abeed waited for the escort  to go to school, because the Israeli soldiers were late, missing 18 hours of class.

The road that connects Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed to At Tuwani, became impassable for 15 years, when Havat Ma’on Israeli illegal outpost was built leaving the road between the outpost and Ma’on settlement under continuos threat of violence from Israeli settlers.

In these days Operation Dove volunteers reported many episodes in which settlers from Susya Israeli settlement and Mitzpe Yair illegal outpost prevented Palestinian shepherds to graze their flocks on their own land, near the settlement and the illegal outpost.

On August 19 an Israeli settler got out of his car and started to run with a nylon cloth in order to chase away a Palestinian shepherd, that was grazing his flock in a Palestinian land close to Israelis.

On August 21-22 the Civilian Security Coordinator of Susya settlement controlled from his car the Palestinian shepherds for more than two hours, trying to upset and scare them with his presence. He also closed the access road to the Palestinian land with wood and waste materials.

Daily Israeli settlers threaten Palestinian shepherds on the land near the settlement of Susya, violating the Israeli civil Administration orders. Israeli settlers violence deny to the Palestinians the right to access their own land, also when an area is recognized as Palestinian land close to Israeli by the law.

UPDATE: Israeli settler uproots ten Palestinian olive trees near Avigayil illegal outpost

In the morning of July the 20th, the Operation Dove volunteers went near Avigayil Israeli illegal outpost where, according to the eyewitnesses, one Israeli settler uprooted ten olive trees while the Palestinian owners were working their own land beside the outpost.

The DCO officers and the Israeli soldiers monitored the area throughout the morning in order to prevent further attacks against Palestinian workers and their properties. The Israeli police arrived on the spot only two hours after the attack.

Palestinian lands surrounding Israeli settlements and outposts are generally object of expansion of the settlements and therefore denied to their rightful Palestinian owners. Even when the Israeli forces recognize this right to access the land to Palestinians, this right is not effective because of settlers’ violence.

UPDATE: Colono israeliano sradica dieci ulivi palestinesi vicino all’avamposto illegale di Avigayil

On the afternoon of May 5, at around 6 pm, two Operation Dove volunteers, who were coming back from an escort to Palestinian shepherds in Shabel Shamsti, were threatened by an Israeli settler. As soon as the Israeli settler spotted the two international volunteers he covered his face and started to run towards them. They were chased by him for a while until he reached the street that connects the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on to the Old Havat Ma’on hill and then decided to go back.
Since the beginning of March volunteers reported 16 instances in the same area, where Palestinians and Internationals were attacked or forced to leave because of Havat Ma’on settlers violence.

On February 9, in the morning, two Israeli settlers from Mitzpe Yair illegal outpost  attacked two Palestinian shepherds from the Palestinian village of Qawawis, in the South Hebron Hills. The shepherds were grazing their flocks near the village of Shabel Butum, when two settlers arrived, threw stones and beat the shepherds with sticks. The Palestinian shepherds were injured. One shepherd successfully returned home alone, but the other had to wait for Operation Dove volunteers, because there were settlers on the route.

On the same morning, a settler driving a  car came out from the Illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, going toward Palestinian shepherds grazing in the area. The settler, armed with a rifle, tried to reach them. The shepherds were able to move quickly away thanks to the presence of International volunteers.

On February 2nd, the military Israeli escort that must accompany the children from Tuba and Maghayr al Abeed Palestinians villages to school didn’t show up. Operation Dove volunteers and Israeli activists made several phone calls to the army base, but the soldiers didn’t give any explanation about their misconduct.

The children decided to take a longer path, but they were forced to stop by two settlers from Havat Ma’on illegal oupost who passed more times on the road by car. The children were very scared and ran away but one settler chased them. The settlers also prevented Operation Dove volunteers to reach the children, blocking their way with the car and following them.

The children couldn’t reach the school and they had to came back home because of the misconduct of the soldiers and the violence of the settlers.

In the same morning Israeli soldiers in the area harassed Palestinian shepherds grazing the flocks, pushing them away from their lands.

Almost every day misconducts of Israeli escort army and violent behaviors of settlers from Havat Ma’on put Palestinian children in danger and deny their right of the education, in violation of Articles 2-3-6-16-19-38 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

UPDATE: Israeli settlers and army still endanger Palestinian children’s safety

(Italian follows)

On January 30, two Operation Dove volunteers were accompaning back home a Palestinian child in the village of Tuba, in the South Hebron Hills. One masked settler was waiting the Internationals and the child on the way, forcing them to walk through a longer path. After the Palestinian child was safe, the masked settler chased the Internationals in order to attack them. As he didn’t succeed to reach the volunteers, he came back to the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on.

The day after, the Israeli army, (that must escort the children of Tuba and Maghayir Al Abeed Palestinian villages to school every day) , exposed them to the risk of attacks from the settlers of the Ma’on settlement and the Havat Ma’on outpost. Indeed on the first of school day after the holiday, 16 Palestinian children had to wait the military escort for more than an hour. The Israeli soldiers didn’t arrived so the schoolchildren decided to walk through a longer and dangerous path, the same on which the day before a Palestinian child and Operation Dove volunteers were harassed.

Israeli and Palestinian peace activists released

gennaio 29, 2016 at 11:04 am

Published from Ta’ayush facebook profile

This morning the court in Jerusalem released, with no conditions, Ezra Nawi and Guy Butavia, after early this week Nasser Nawajeh was also released. Now that all three Taayush activists arrested as part of the attempt to silence the group and its work, we can go back to concentrating on what’s really going on.
So what’s really going on in the South Hebron hills? Take a walk on the road by Ma’on.
