Settler from illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on trying to reach the Palestinian shepherds

(Italian follows)

On February 9, in the morning, two Israeli settlers from Mitzpe Yair illegal outpost  attacked two Palestinian shepherds from the Palestinian village of Qawawis, in the South Hebron Hills. The shepherds were grazing their flocks near the village of Shabel Butum, when two settlers arrived, threw stones and beat the shepherds with sticks. The Palestinian shepherds were injured. One shepherd successfully returned home alone, but the other had to wait for Operation Dove volunteers, because there were settlers on the route.

On the same morning, a settler driving a  car came out from the Illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, going toward Palestinian shepherds grazing in the area. The settler, armed with a rifle, tried to reach them. The shepherds were able to move quickly away thanks to the presence of International volunteers.

Israeli settler from Havat Ma’on outpost who harrassed Palestinian children and International

(Italian follows)

On February 2nd, the military Israeli escort that must accompany the children from Tuba and Maghayr al Abeed Palestinians villages to school didn’t show up. Operation Dove volunteers and Israeli activists made several phone calls to the army base, but the soldiers didn’t give any explanation about their misconduct.

The children decided to take a longer path, but they were forced to stop by two settlers from Havat Ma’on illegal oupost who passed more times on the road by car. The children were very scared and ran away but one settler chased them. The settlers also prevented Operation Dove volunteers to reach the children, blocking their way with the car and following them.

The children couldn’t reach the school and they had to came back home because of the misconduct of the soldiers and the violence of the settlers.

In the same morning Israeli soldiers in the area harassed Palestinian shepherds grazing the flocks, pushing them away from their lands.

Almost every day misconducts of Israeli escort army and violent behaviors of settlers from Havat Ma’on put Palestinian children in danger and deny their right of the education, in violation of Articles 2-3-6-16-19-38 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On December 31, Israeli soldiers tried to arrest two Palestinian shepherds in the valley between the Palestinian village of Tuba and Havat Ma’on illegal outpost. The soldiers arrived in the area after a call from Havat Ma’on settlers. The settlers gave them orders and information about the position of the shepherds. Soldiers tried to catch the Palestinian but they succeeded to move their flocks away reaching a safe place.

Then the soldiers intimidate OD volunteers presents in the area asking if they had knives or weapons. The soldiers frisked them and search their backpack.

In the last months Israeli forces, with the excuse of security, implemented even more oppressive measures against Palestinian people, making their life more difficult and obstructing the work of Internationals human rights defenders.

UPDATE: Misconduct of Israeli Army escort endangers two girls attending school in At Tuwani village

dicembre 18, 2015 at 1:12 pm

P1030237

(Italian follows)

On December 17, the Israeli soldiers who every day escort the children of Tuba and Maghayir Al Abeed Palestinian villages from home to the school in At Tuwani village, refused to escort two girls and exposed them to the risk of attacks from the settlers of the Ma’on settlement and the Havat Ma’on illegal outpost.

For no reason the escort refused to accompany more than eleven kids. They told the eldest girls (18 and 19 years old) that they would not be responsible for them and that they should walk by their own, behind the Army jeep, far from the others. Since there was a very thick fog, the two girls could not see the jeep and the other children, and where very scared. At about half way the Army jeep stopped to tell the girls that they were too close and they had to walk farther, while a soldier started walking with them. On their way an Israeli settler approached them and whistled in order to call other settlers. The two girls, although very scared, could eventually reach the end of the route.

The two girls, as well as the other schoolchildren, every day have to wait for the escort in order to walk through the dangerous route that passes between the Israeli settlement and the outpost, and every misconduct of the soldiers (such as delays and negligence) put them at serious risk. Since the beginning of this school year, the soldiers for five times did not complete the path with the schoolchildren leaving them in the middle of the path. Once, they remained far from the children who were harassed by a settler in a car and in one occasion they threatened to arrest a kid for playing with a tire near the jeep. For four times the escort arrived late for a hour or more, and in two of these circumstances the children eventually decided to walk through the long way escorted by the International volunteers.
