On the afternoon of the 15th of June at about 2.15 pm Israeli Army started again to block one of the main access to the Palestinian city of Yatta and the area adjacent to the road, digging and damaging the fields, in order to prevent the Palestinian to bypass the roadblock.

After a few hours, at about 9.50 pm the Israeli Army they were there again to open the access on the main road. Besides the Israeli bulldozers,  the presence of the Army is a constant deterrent to the Palestinian right to freely move in the area.  Flying checkpoints and roadblocks are clear examples.

The systematic interference of the Israeli Army over the Palestinian right of movement is a clear collective punishment carried out by the Israeli government after Tel Aviv attack.

UPDATE: ISRAEL COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT, ROAD BLOCKS PARALYSE YATTA

giugno 9, 2016 at 7:01 pm

(Italian follows)

P1150364

At 8:50 am of Thursday 9th of June Operation Dove’s volunteers went on the road that connects the village of At-Tuwani to Yatta where 6 Army jeeps and a bulldozer were blocking the access to the city with a road block.

The volunteers then checked the other access routes and counted 9 roads over 11 completely blocked.

This reprisal started just a couple of hours after the wednesday shooting in Tel Aviv.

To isolate Yatta which is the main city of the South Hebron Hills area means to cut out the palestinians residents from hospitals, schools, commercial activities and working places. Many familes are forced to split for un indeterminate period of time.To this already heavy situation there is to add the annulment of 83 thousand visas that would have allowed palestinians to travel to Israel and abroad in the holy month of Ramadan, also depriving them of the right of going to pray in Jerusalem.

Operation Dove condemns this collective punishments that the Israeli government is inflicting once again on the palestinian population.

On the afternoon of May 5, at around 6 pm, two Operation Dove volunteers, who were coming back from an escort to Palestinian shepherds in Shabel Shamsti, were threatened by an Israeli settler. As soon as the Israeli settler spotted the two international volunteers he covered his face and started to run towards them. They were chased by him for a while until he reached the street that connects the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on to the Old Havat Ma’on hill and then decided to go back.
Since the beginning of March volunteers reported 16 instances in the same area, where Palestinians and Internationals were attacked or forced to leave because of Havat Ma’on settlers violence.

Al-Mufaqarah- On 22 April at about 8.45 am Israeli soldiers forbidded the work of a group of 20 Palestinian  that were harvesting crops in a Palestinian land near to the Israeli illegal outpost of Avigayil. For the Israeli soldiers the field legally owned by a Palestinian man is too close to the outpost of Avigayil, illegal even for the Israeli law.

April is the month in which Palestinians harvest this kind of crops, but he simple activity of collecting crops become dangerous, especially when the fields are located near to the Israeli settlements and outposts.
In the last two weeks International volunteers accompanied the Palestinians harvesting herbs on their own lands.

UPDATE: Israeli military demolishes one home and two animal shelters in Palestinian villages of Jinba and Al-Tabban inside Firing Zone 918

At about 11:00 AM on the morning of March 22 approximately 20 Israeli Army soldiers, Border Police and Civil Administration (DCO) personnel drove two bulldozers into the Palestinian village of Jinba, in Masafer Yatta.  They demolished one home and one animal shelter containing chickens, and confiscated solar electric panels, then drove the bulldozers to the nearby Palestinian village of Al-Tabban, where they demolished another animal enclosure.  The demolitions left six Palestinians homeless, including four children.

The buildings destroyed in Jinba village include a 70 square meter home and a 200 square meter agricultural building belonging to a young family. When the bulldozer started to destroy the building which housed the family’s poultry the women asked to be allowed to take the chickens out but soldiers held the women back and demolished the building with the chickens inside, killing the majority of the birds. After the family’s home and agricultural structures had been reduced to a large pile of rubble and destroyed household goods. Israeli Civil Administration (DCO) personnel dug through the pile to find and confiscate the home’s solar electric panels.

Jinba and Al-Tabban are two of eight Palestinian villages housing a total of about 1000 people inside what Israel claims as Firing Zone 918. All of the Palestinian structures inside Firing Zone 918 are under threat of demolition by Israeli authorities, due to Israel’s intention to remove the villages from the area in order to gain exclusive use of it for military training. On February 3 Israeli authorities demolished 24 structures in Jinba and Halaweh villages.

Residents of the area have lived under threat of demolition since they returned to their villages after Israeli authorities demolished homes and forcibly removed 700 people. During 2000 and 2001 many families returned to their land and in 2000 the villages appealed to the Israeli Court for the right to  remain on the land.

Since that time the villages have engaged in court ordered mediation with the State of Israel, which ended at the start of February without the parties reaching an agreement.

Israeli demolitions of Palestinian homes have increased sharply in recent months.  In February alone Israeli forces destroyed  235 homes and structures, displacing 331 Palestinians, including 174 children.

Israeli firing zones take up about 18 percent of the West Bank.

UPDATE: Palestinians and International volunteers attacked by settlers from the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on

On the morning on March 4, at about 8 am, three Israeli settlers, two adults and one child, chased and attacked two International volunteers who were walking from the Palestinian village of At Tuwani to the Palestinian village of Tuba, near the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on. The settlers covered their faces and threw stones repeatedly at the volunteers and chased them to Tuba village. The volunteers escaped the settlers by running and arrived safely in the village of Tuba.

Later the same morning, at about 10am, a settler in a car from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, reached a group of five Palestinian children and one young woman, who were gathering herbs. The settler drove off the road towards the group  and the Palestinians immediately left  the valley to a safer area, where they waited with international volunteers.

About one hour later two settler children came from the illegal outpost with slingshots and threw stones towards the group. The same two settler children threw stones at a Palestinian shepherd and his children while they were grazing their sheep near the illegal outpost on February 28, and frequently practice with slingshots near the outpost.

International volunteers in the South Hebron Hills have documented an increase in settler harassment of Palestinians in recent weeks.  Many Palestinian families in the area make their living from grazing sheep and goats, and collecting herbs and raising  crops. Because the spring agricultural season is short it is essential that these families have safe access to their land at this time of year. Settler violence and harassment which limits Palestinian access to land during the spring planting, harvesting and grazing season impacts the families throughout the year.

The Israeli settler outpost of Havat Ma’on is illegal under both Israeli and international law, as are all of the Israeli outposts in the West Bank.

UPDATE: Palestinesi e  volontari internazionali attaccati dai coloni israeliani dell’avamposto illegale di Havat Ma’on

On the morning of February 14 Israeli soldiers detained a Palestinian shepherd who was grazing his flock on in a valley on Palestinian land near the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on, near the Palestinian village of At Tuwani in the South Hebron Hills.

The soldiers herded the flock and forced the shepherd to move into an area which is Palestinian land but which Israeli Authorities have declared closed to Palestinians. International volunteers observed the soldiers kicking a goat to force the animals to move. The soldiers detained the shepherd there for two hours until Israeli police arrived. Israeli settlers also entered the area from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on and international volunteers observed the soldiers acting at the direction of the settlers.

The soldiers showed the shepherd a map which showed a small area of land where they told him he was allowed to graze his flock, however the land they showed him was isolated, with no direct path on which they would allow him to take his flock.

When the Israeli police arrived they released the shepherd and the flock.  Although all of the land surrounding the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on is Palestinian, settlers and Israeli authorities have outlined a band of land around the outpost and have forbidden the shepherds from using this land to graze their flocks. Settlers frequently call soldiers to harass Palestinian shepherds even when they are grazing their flocks outside that band, on land where their presence is clearly not forbidden. In this way the grazing area has been reduced, and shepherds who do choose to access the land face the possibility of attacks by settlers, detention, arrest, and the interruption of their work day.

All of the Israeli settlements, including the settlement of Ma’on, are illegal under international law. The outposts, including Havat Ma’on, are also illegal under Israeli law.
