Operation Dove volunteers yesterday visited new houses and families who move in the area, new school, new road, new dwell.

Military violence is not enough to stop the active energy of people that just need to live in dignity in their own land.

I volontari di Operazione Colomba ieri hanno visitato nuove famiglie che si sono trasferite a vivere lì, una nuova scuola, nuove case, nuove strade, nuovi pozzi.

La violenza militare non è sufficiente a fermare l’energia vitale di persone che chiedono di poter restare dignitosamente nella propria terra.

On the morning of September 26 Israeli army beat a Palestinian man in Jawwaya village, in the south Hebron hills. The man was accused of stealing water from “Mekorot” (Israeli national water company) and when he asked the soldiers if they had some proofs they replied by hitting him. The Israeli soldiers also took the phone of one witness and deleted photos and videos of the beating.

La mattina del 26 settembre soldati israeliani hanno picchiato un palestinese nel villaggio di Jawwaya, nelle colline a sud di Hebron. L’uomo era stato accusato di aver rubato dell’acqua alla Mekorot (compagnia idrica nazionale israeliana), e quando ha chiesto se ci fossero delle prove i soldati hanno risposto picchiandolo. I militari israeliani hanno anche preso il telefono di uno dei testimoni, cancellando foto e video del pestaggio.

Yesterday, September 14, at 11 pm Israeli army raided the Palestinian village of Jinba, in the South Hebron Hills, during a party organized by the Palestinian inhabitants. The soldiers beat and arrested one Palestinian boy (18 years old) because he refused to turn off the music. The soldiers also confiscated two Palestinian vehicles and arrested one of the drivers (19 years old).

The Palestinian community of Jinba village, located inside the so called “Firing Zone 918”, is constantly victim of violence, abuses and damages by the Israeli army who continues to use the Palestinian village as military training area.

Nella notte del 14 settembre, alle ore 23, l’esercito israeliano ha fatto un raid nel villaggio palestinese di Jinba, nelle colline a sud di Hebron, mentre si stava svolgendo una festa organizzata dagli abitanti del villaggio. I soldati hanno picchiato ed arrestato un giovane palestinese di 18 anni perché si era rifiutato di spegnere la musica. I militari israeliani hanno inoltre confiscato due veicoli palestinesi e arrestato un palestinese di 19 anni che era alla guida di uno dei mezzi.

La comunità palestinese del villaggio di Jinba, situato all’interno della cosiddetta “Firing Zone 918”, è quotidianamente vittima della violenza, degli abusi e dei danneggiamenti compiuti dall’esercito israeliano, che usa il villaggio palestinese come area di addestramento.

On the morning of September 3 an Israeli unmarked car arrived on the Palestinian village of Sarura and four policeman without uniform arrested a young Palestinian man, Sami Hureini, 20-years-old. He leads the nonviolence resistance of Sumud camp. Israeli military did not give any explanations.

La mattina del 3 settembre quattro poliziotti in borghese sono arrivati nel villaggio palestinese di Sarura con una macchina civile israeliana e hanno arrestato un giovane palestinese, Sami Hureini, di soli 20 anni. Il ragazzo arrestato ha guidato in questi mesi le azioni di resistenza nonviolenta del Sumud camp. La polizia non ha dato nessuna spiegazione.

On the late morning of February 20 the Israeli army arrested a Palestinian who was grazing his flock between the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on and the Palestinian village of Tuba.The Israeli soldiers approached and arrested the Palestinian without any charge. After reaching the spot the Operation Dove volunteers tried to  get  information from the Israeli soldiers but they refused to give any explanation. The Israeli soldiers carried the Palestinian on the jeep and went away through the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. The shepherd was moved to the Kiryat Arba Israeli police station and released after about three hours.

The day before a Palestinian man who was walking home to his village of Maghayir al Abeed from the Palestinian village of Tuwani was chased and detained by Israeli soldiers on the morning of February 19 after two settlers from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on followed him by truck and called the Israeli army.  The soldiers took the man’s ID from him and held it, forcing him to wait until the Israeli police arrived.  Volunteers from Operation Dove repeatedly asked the soldiers and the police to explain their reasons for detaining the man, but the Israeli authorities refused to talk with them and spoke only with the settlers.  The settlers continued to demand that the police arrest the man, and  also take measures to prevent Palestinians from passing through the valleys near the illegal outpost.  After about one half hour the police released the man, but the settlers remained in the area and continued to search for Palestinian shepherds and flocks, accompanied by Israeli soldiers.  One settler, escorted by two soldiers, demanded to see the ID’s of two Palestinian shepherds who were grazing flocks nearby, even though settlers have no authority to ask for ID’s.  Shortly thereafter the settler and the soldiers left the area.

To add insult to injury, schoolchildren from the Palestinian village of Maghayir al Abeed  and Tuba were forced to wait  after school in Tuwani for  20 minutes  for the military escort which enables them to walk home past Havat Ma’on in safety.  The soldiers who should have been escorting them home were instead detaining and harassing Palestinians at the request of the settlers.  When Operation Dove volunteers called the Army to report that the school escort had not arrived an Israeli Army spokesperson told them that the military was, “engaged in a major operation in the area.”

UPDATE: Arresto e detenzione di palestinesi nelle colline a sud di Hebron.

Nella tarda mattinata di lunedì 20 febbraio l’esercito israeliano ha arrestato un palestinese mentre pascolava col suo gregge tra l’avamposto israeliano di Havat Ma’on e il villaggio palestinese di Tuba.  Ad avvicinarsi al pastore sono stati due mezzi militari con a bordo sei soldati che hanno prima fermato poi arrestato il palestinese. I volontari di Operazione Colomba hanno raggiunto i militari cercando di ottenere informazioni ed il rilascio dell’arrestato. I soldati, che avevano già caricato su di una jeep il palestinese, si sono rifiutati di rispondere e di fornire il numero di carta d’identità del pastore, per poi allontanarsi verso l’avamposto di Havat Ma’on. Il palestinese è stato spostato alla stazione di polizia israeliana di Kiryat Arba e rilasciato dopo circa tre ore.

Il giorno prima, domenica 19, la polizia e l’esercito israeliano hanno detenuto un palestinese che da At Tuwani stava tornando a casa nel villaggio di Maghayir al Abeed. A guidare l’operazione militare sono stati i coloni dell’avamposto israeliano di Havat Ma’on, i quali hanno dato ordini alle forze israeliane. I militari hanno trattenuto la carta di identità del ragazzo palestinese, obbligandolo ad attendere l’arrivo della polizia. I volontari di Operazione Colomba hanno più volte chiesto spiegazioni agli ufficiali sul posto senza ottenere alcuna risposta. Dopo circa trenta minuti di detenzione, a seguito delle pressioni dei volontari, il ragazzo è stato lasciato andare. Poco dopo un colono di Havat Ma’on e due militari si sono avvicinati anche ad una coppia di pastori palestinesi chiedendo le loro generalità. A fare le spese di questa operazione sono stati anche i bambini di Tuba e Maghayir al Abeed che hanno dovuto attendere venti minuti la scorta militare per rientrare a casa. Stessa scorta, che a detta del comando militare era impegnata in “un’ importante operazione” nell’ area. Dove è stato proprio detenuto il ragazzo palestinese.

After waiting for more than an hour for the soldiers assigned to escort them home after school in At Tuwani,  five Palestinian schoolchildren, aged 8-15, were chased by Israeli settlers armed with sticks as they attempted to reach their homes in the Palestinian village of Tuba.

The attack took place in the early afternoon of Thursday, February 15, as the children attempted to walk home  on a path near the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on. Before the attack Operation Dove  volunteers and Israeli lawyers made multiple phone calls to the Israeli army to inform them that the military escort tasked with ensuring the safety of the children had not arrived, but the army did not respond. Without the military escort  the children were unable to walk home on the road which directly connects their villages, but which runs near Ma’on settlement and the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. Operation Dove volunteers therefore  accompanied the five children as they tried to reach their homes using an alternative path around the outpost.  As the group passed near Havat Ma’on three settlers ran after the children with sticks and attempted  to prevent them from reaching Tuba.  The children and volunteers were forced to run in order to escape the attack.

Thursday’s failure by the military to adequately protect the children from settler violence and guarantee their right to education was not an isolated incident.  Since the start of the current school semester in mid-January the military escort has been late repeatedly.  The children have been forced to wait in the open, regardless of rain and freezing temperatures, for a total of three and one half over 20 days of school. This policy of negligence on the part of the Israeli army continuously exposes theses children to the threat of settler violence as they attempt to access  their right to education.

UPDATE: Coloni di Havat Ma’on attaccano bambini palestinesi

Dopo aver atteso più di un’ora la scorta militare che li avrebbe dovuti accompagnare a casa, i bambini palestinesi di Tuba, finita la scuola, sono stati costretti a raggiungere casa percorrendo la strada lunga, accanto all’avamposto illegale di Havat Ma’On: a quel punto sono stati rincorsi e minacciati dai coloni. L’attacco e’ avvenuto nel primo pomeriggio di giovedi’ 15 febbraio; era dall’aprile 2014 che non si registravano episodi cosi’ violenti contro i bambini palestinesi.  Bambini che sarebbero dovuti rientrare a Tuba sotto la protezione dell’ esercito israeliano, passando vicino la colonia di Ma’On, se non fosse che la scorta militare non si e’ presentata al punto di incontro. A nulla sono valse le sollecitazioni telefoniche dei volontari di Operazione Colomba e degli avvocati israeliani,  impegnati a contattare la base militare per assicurare copertura nel servizio di school patrol. Gli stessi volontari hanno accompagnato i bambini a casa attraverso il pericoloso  sentiero, a pochi metri dagli insediamento illegale di Havat Ma’On. Ed e’ proprio dall’ avamposto di Havat Ma’On che tre coloni sono scesi correndo verso i 5 bambini palestinesi e i volontari di Operazione Colomba. Sono scesi armati di bastoni, cercando di intercettare gli scolari diretti verso Tuba, costringendo i bambini a scappare correndo. Con la minaccia di venire aggrediti. Rientro che, a causa della mancata scorta militare e dell’ attacco dei coloni, e’ avvenuto con due ore di ritardo. Una negligenza non isolata visto che, dall’inizio del nuovo semestre scolastico, i soldati hanno obbligato i bambini ad attendere dopo la scuola al freddo e sotto la pioggia per un totale di 3 ore, accumulando 200 minuti di ritardo in soli 20 giorni. Tutto ciò espone i bimbi di Tuba alla violenza, sempre crescente, dei coloni israeliani.
