(Italian follows)

On the early morning of August 24 Israeli Army, Border Police and DCO burst into the Palestinian village of Umm Al Kheir, in order to demolish. The Israeli forces chased away people from the area, beat and detained an old Palestinian man. The Army demolished 2 private houses and the community center of the village. One of the houses (previously built with European Union funds) had already been demolished by the same Israeli Army two weeks ago, and it had been rebuilt by the people of the village.

Then the convoy moved to Khallet Athaba Palestinian village, where the Israeli forces destroyed two water cisterns and about 700 olive trees, cutting the trunks of the trees and poisoning them. They also closed the main road that leads to the village and to all Masafer Yatta area, preventing all the Palestinian cars to enter. All the area was closed to Palestinians and Internationals, but an Israeli settler from Regavim Israeli NGO was inside.

In the same time some Israeli soldiers were hiding on the crossroad between Bypass road 317 and the road to Al Birkeh, at the entrance of At Tuwani village. When a Palestinian car tried to cross the bypass road, the soldiers shot at the car four times. The car went towards Al Birkeh; no injured was reported.

VIDEO UPDATE: 2016-08-24 Demolizioni in Umm Al Kheir and Khallet Athaba

In the morning of July the 20th, the Operation Dove volunteers went near Avigayil Israeli illegal outpost where, according to the eyewitnesses, one Israeli settler uprooted ten olive trees while the Palestinian owners were working their own land beside the outpost.

The DCO officers and the Israeli soldiers monitored the area throughout the morning in order to prevent further attacks against Palestinian workers and their properties. The Israeli police arrived on the spot only two hours after the attack.

Palestinian lands surrounding Israeli settlements and outposts are generally object of expansion of the settlements and therefore denied to their rightful Palestinian owners. Even when the Israeli forces recognize this right to access the land to Palestinians, this right is not effective because of settlers’ violence.

UPDATE: Colono israeliano sradica dieci ulivi palestinesi vicino all’avamposto illegale di Avigayil

INTERACTIVE MAP: The closure of Yatta and Bani Na’im

luglio 2, 2016 at 12:29 pm

In the last three days Israeli military forces closed all the main entrances to the Palestinian cities of Yatta and Bani Na’im, including several secondary roads in the south-east Hebron area.

The presence of roadblocks, earthmounds, road gates and checkpoints, set up by Israeli Army, prevents Palestinian to use the roads, also to reach basic services as the hospitals, in violation of the right to freedom of movement (Art.13 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights). This is a clear collective punishment, which is banned under the International law, after the escalation of violence of this day.

Operation Dove condemns this collective punishment that the Israeli government is inflicting once again on the Palestinian population, especially during this days of Ramadan, the holy month for muslims.

At about 11:00 AM on the morning of March 22 approximately 20 Israeli Army soldiers, Border Police and Civil Administration (DCO) personnel drove two bulldozers into the Palestinian village of Jinba, in Masafer Yatta.  They demolished one home and one animal shelter containing chickens, and confiscated solar electric panels, then drove the bulldozers to the nearby Palestinian village of Al-Tabban, where they demolished another animal enclosure.  The demolitions left six Palestinians homeless, including four children.

The buildings destroyed in Jinba village include a 70 square meter home and a 200 square meter agricultural building belonging to a young family. When the bulldozer started to destroy the building which housed the family’s poultry the women asked to be allowed to take the chickens out but soldiers held the women back and demolished the building with the chickens inside, killing the majority of the birds. After the family’s home and agricultural structures had been reduced to a large pile of rubble and destroyed household goods. Israeli Civil Administration (DCO) personnel dug through the pile to find and confiscate the home’s solar electric panels.

Jinba and Al-Tabban are two of eight Palestinian villages housing a total of about 1000 people inside what Israel claims as Firing Zone 918. All of the Palestinian structures inside Firing Zone 918 are under threat of demolition by Israeli authorities, due to Israel’s intention to remove the villages from the area in order to gain exclusive use of it for military training. On February 3 Israeli authorities demolished 24 structures in Jinba and Halaweh villages.

Residents of the area have lived under threat of demolition since they returned to their villages after Israeli authorities demolished homes and forcibly removed 700 people. During 2000 and 2001 many families returned to their land and in 2000 the villages appealed to the Israeli Court for the right to  remain on the land.

Since that time the villages have engaged in court ordered mediation with the State of Israel, which ended at the start of February without the parties reaching an agreement.

Israeli demolitions of Palestinian homes have increased sharply in recent months.  In February alone Israeli forces destroyed  235 homes and structures, displacing 331 Palestinians, including 174 children.

Israeli firing zones take up about 18 percent of the West Bank.

UPDATE: Israeli soldiers detain Palestinian shepherd near the illegal outpost of Avigayil

marzo 18, 2016 at 10:12 am

(italian follows)

P1130505

On March 17 at about 3:30 pm a settler from the Illegal Israeli outpost of Avigayil, located in the South Hebron Hills, approached a Palestinian shepherd from the nearby Palestinian village of Qawawis who was grazing a flock on Palestinian land. The shepherd began filming as the settler called the Israeli army.

Israeli soldiers arrived on foot from the outpost . They told the shepherd they were detaining him because he was in a closed military zone and prevented him from exercising his right to access the land. When a Palestinian human rights worker and two international volunteers arrived the soldiers began to yell at them and ordered them to leave the area as well. The soldiers showed them a map and claimed that the area was a closed military zone.

The soldiers confiscated the shepherd’s camera and deleted the video, then blindfolded the shepherd and took him into the illegal outpost of Avigayil. They then transported him to the military base at Susya,. They released him at about 6:00pm.

Residents of the village of Qawawis have experienced years of intimidation and harassment by Israeli soldiers and settlers from the illegal Israeli outposts of Avigayil and Mitzpe Yair, including assault, serious injury, burning and destruction of crops, vandalism, military demolitions of homes, animal enclosures and agricultural buildings, and arrest and detention of shepherds as they access their land.

The Israeli outposts of Avigayil and Mitzpe Yair are illegal under both International and Israeli law, as are all of the outposts in the West Bank.
