UPDATE: The Israeli Army prevents Palestinians freedom of movement closing the road and blocking people for hours

Blockroad on the road to Al Birkeh

(Italian follows)

Two days ago, on the 23rd of July, the Israeli army closed again the road to the Palestinian city of Yatta. Because of the closure, the cars are forced to pass through the fields in order to reach the city. Since the beginning of June 2016 the Israeli army has closed the road eight times as a collective punishment against Palestinian civil population after the attacks against Israeli citizens.

On the night of July the 24th the Israeli army stopped a car of a Palestinian man driving along the road from Yatta to his home, in the Palestinian village of At -Tuwani. Unexpectedly and without a valid reason the army confiscated the personal ID and the keys of the car to the driver, telling him to wait for their return. The man, together with the OD volunteers, waited for one hour in order to have back his keys and come back home.

The same violation took place this morning, on the 25th of July, when the Israeli army stopped two cars. 4 men and 2 children of 4 and 5 years old were forced to wait  for 3 hours under the sun for the soldiers to give them back their keys and documents.

One of the two cars was obliged to stand in the only passage to go through consequently blocking the access to the other vehicles.

In the last month  the continuous closures of the roads and the harassments from the Israeli soldiers is a clear violation of the right to freedom of movement (Art.13 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights) of the Palestinians living in the South Hebron Hills.

Palestinians waiting for the Israeli soldiers with their keys and ID

UPDATE: ISRAEL COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT, ROAD BLOCKS PARALYSE YATTA

P1150364

At 8:50 am of Thursday 9th of June Operation Dove’s volunteers went on the road that connects the village of At-Tuwani to Yatta where 6 Army jeeps and a bulldozer were blocking the access to the city with a road block.

The volunteers then checked the other access routes and counted 9 roads over 11 completely blocked.

This reprisal started just a couple of hours after the wednesday shooting in Tel Aviv.

To isolate Yatta which is the main city of the South Hebron Hills area means to cut out the palestinians residents from hospitals, schools, commercial activities and working places. Many familes are forced to split for un indeterminate period of time.To this already heavy situation there is to add the annulment of 83 thousand visas that would have allowed palestinians to travel to Israel and abroad in the holy month of Ramadan, also depriving them of the right of going to pray in Jerusalem.

Operation Dove condemns this collective punishments that the Israeli government is inflicting once again on the palestinian population.

UPDATE: THE FRUITS OF THE OCCUPATION

(Italian follows)

In the morning of the 27th of May OD volunteers while they were with two Palestinian sheperds witnessed the arrival of groups of Israeli in Khelly Valley, the area just between the settlement of Ma’on (including the adjacent illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on) and the Palestinian village of At-Tuwani, for the settlers’ “cherry festival”.

The fruits of these trees add up to the already disproportionate consuption of water by the Israeli settlers compared to the daily use of the West Bank palestinians (the data collected by the IMEU speaks of a 369L per day per Israeli settler versus the 73L per day per west bank palestinian). In addition at least 84 percent of the springs affected by settler activities are located on land recognized by the Israeli Civil Administration (ICA) as privately owned by Palestinians.

Facts in hand, this cherry festival is once again an attempt to deny the exploitation of the Palestinian lands by the Israeli settlements, glorifying the “fruits” of the occupation.

UPDATE: I frutti dell’occupazione

UPDATE: Action in At-Tuwani village

On May 7th more than one hundred Palestinians from different towns of the area gathered on the hill just above At-Tuwani village to plant olive trees all over the hill top. The Palestinian press was also present. The atmosphere was cheerful and relaxed, there were a lot of children playing around and helping the grown ups to plant the trees. Towards the end of the demonstration chief of security of Ma’on’s Israeli settlement called the Israeli Army.  A jeep of soldiers entered the village, three of them got off and searched the area surrounding the action. After the had a look around for some minute they went away. Ma’on’s chief of security kept watching for a while whilst talking to a soldier then he also went away. The demonstration kept going with a final lunch all together under a tree.

The meaning behind this demonstration was to underline the connection between the Palestinians and their land. Also the tree planted will be taken care by the people in At-Tuwani but they also belong to the people who planted them from around the West Bank. These olive trees are a symbol that brings together not only people of the South Hebron Hills.

On the afternoon of May 5, at around 6 pm, two Operation Dove volunteers, who were coming back from an escort to Palestinian shepherds in Shabel Shamsti, were threatened by an Israeli settler. As soon as the Israeli settler spotted the two international volunteers he covered his face and started to run towards them. They were chased by him for a while until he reached the street that connects the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on to the Old Havat Ma’on hill and then decided to go back.
Since the beginning of March volunteers reported 16 instances in the same area, where Palestinians and Internationals were attacked or forced to leave because of Havat Ma’on settlers violence.

UPDATE: The reply of a soldier after the Israeli military escort force the children wait for more than 40 minutes

aprile 28, 2016 at 6:15 am

(Italian follows)

On April 26 at the end of the school Palestinian children had to wait 40 minutes the Israeli Military Escort. When Operation Dove Volunteers ask to the soldiers the cause of their late one of them answer “i was at the Bathroom”
Every day Palestinian schoolchildren have to wait for the escort in order to walk through the dangerous route that passes between the Israeli settlement of Ma’on and the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on , and every misconduct of the soldiers (such as delays and negligence) put them at serious risk.

UPDATE: Harvesting time

(Italian follows)

The month of April is time for the harvesting in the South Hebron Hills. Palestinians from At-Tuwani and other nearby villages harvest “cursanni”, a plant used to feed sheep and goats in winter season when fields are empty.
A lot of Palestinian’s fields in this area are nearby Israely settlements or outposts, so even a simply activity like harvesting became a challenge that exposes Palestinian to settlers’s attacks or Israeli soldier harassment. Even thought Palestinians keep on with their daily activities facing the Israeli occupation. Also this is “Everyday Resistence”.

UPDATE : Israeli military forces demolishes six houses and left 35 people homeless in the Palestinian villages of Um al Kher in South Hebron Hills

aprile 6, 2016 at 10:30 pm

At about 6,30 am on the morning of April 6, Israeli military forces burst into the Palestinian village of Um al Kher and destroyed six houses, leaving 35 Palestinians homeless, including 17 children.

A Palestinian human rights activist and two Operation Dove volunteers, called by the residents of Um Al Kher, immediately rushed in the village in order to monitor the situation but when they reached the village, the area had already been declared closed by Israeli military forces.

During the demolitions Palestinian inhabitants were obliged to stay far from their houses. When a Palestinian man tried to talk with the soldiers, the Border Police officers pushed him violently away.

Um al Kher is a beduin Palestinian village located in the South Hebron Hills area, whose residents are often threaten by Israeli settlers living in the nearby settlement of Carmel.

According to the United Nation Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) the number of demolitions in 2016 is greatly alarming: until now over 500 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes – equivalent to the total number of Palestinians displaced in all of 2015.
