Israeli military forces demolish in Umm Al Kheir, South Hebron Hills

agosto 9, 2016 at 12:57 pm

On August 9 at about 6.30 am the Israeli military forces (Israeli Army, Border Police and DCO) burst into the Palestinian village of Umm Al Kheir and demolished five structures (three of which built with European Union funds), leaving 27 Palestinians homeless, including 16 children. During the demolitions, the Israeli Army also beat and detained a Palestinian old man.

As Palestinians witnesses reported the demolitions of today are directly linked to Regavim settlers organization’s recent activities (here more details) In this case they pushed the Israeli Civil Administration to take measures against Umm al Kheir local Palestinian community. On July 27 members of Regavim entered in Umm Al Kheir village in order to document the construction of houses founded by European Union, for the people who were displaced because of the last demolitions in April. The day after the Israeli Civil Administration officers, with Regavim pictures, come to Palestinian village pointing to all the EU funded buildings.

In the morning of July the 20th, the Operation Dove volunteers went near Avigayil Israeli illegal outpost where, according to the eyewitnesses, one Israeli settler uprooted ten olive trees while the Palestinian owners were working their own land beside the outpost.

The DCO officers and the Israeli soldiers monitored the area throughout the morning in order to prevent further attacks against Palestinian workers and their properties. The Israeli police arrived on the spot only two hours after the attack.

Palestinian lands surrounding Israeli settlements and outposts are generally object of expansion of the settlements and therefore denied to their rightful Palestinian owners. Even when the Israeli forces recognize this right to access the land to Palestinians, this right is not effective because of settlers’ violence.

UPDATE: Colono israeliano sradica dieci ulivi palestinesi vicino all’avamposto illegale di Avigayil

UPDATE: THE FRUITS OF THE OCCUPATION

In the morning of the 27th of May OD volunteers while they were with two Palestinian sheperds witnessed the arrival of groups of Israeli in Khelly Valley, the area just between the settlement of Ma’on (including the adjacent illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on) and the Palestinian village of At-Tuwani, for the settlers’ “cherry festival”.

The fruits of these trees add up to the already disproportionate consuption of water by the Israeli settlers compared to the daily use of the West Bank palestinians (the data collected by the IMEU speaks of a 369L per day per Israeli settler versus the 73L per day per west bank palestinian). In addition at least 84 percent of the springs affected by settler activities are located on land recognized by the Israeli Civil Administration (ICA) as privately owned by Palestinians.

Facts in hand, this cherry festival is once again an attempt to deny the exploitation of the Palestinian lands by the Israeli settlements, glorifying the “fruits” of the occupation.

UPDATE: I frutti dell’occupazione

On the afternoon of May 5, at around 6 pm, two Operation Dove volunteers, who were coming back from an escort to Palestinian shepherds in Shabel Shamsti, were threatened by an Israeli settler. As soon as the Israeli settler spotted the two international volunteers he covered his face and started to run towards them. They were chased by him for a while until he reached the street that connects the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on to the Old Havat Ma’on hill and then decided to go back.
Since the beginning of March volunteers reported 16 instances in the same area, where Palestinians and Internationals were attacked or forced to leave because of Havat Ma’on settlers violence.

On April 25, during Pesach holiday (the Jewish Eastern) a large group of Israeli forces escort almost one hundred settlers to the pool of the Palestinian village of Al Karmil.  Some settlers present today during this “trip to the pool” live in illegal outposts around this area and some of them were responsible of attacks against Palestinians in the past.
For more than two hours the Israeli Army block the street that connect Al Karmil to the other villages of the South Hebron Hills Area. The Israeli soldiers harassed Palestinian, searching their cars passing near the area and stopping Palestinians that want to go to the pool. The Israeli forces also searched the Palestinian people and in some cases not let them reaching the pool.
Every year, during jewish holidays, Palestinians of Al Karmil village have to face harassment and restriction to their freedom of movement  cause to this kind of Israeli settlers trips.

On the morning on March 4, at about 8 am, three Israeli settlers, two adults and one child, chased and attacked two International volunteers who were walking from the Palestinian village of At Tuwani to the Palestinian village of Tuba, near the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on. The settlers covered their faces and threw stones repeatedly at the volunteers and chased them to Tuba village. The volunteers escaped the settlers by running and arrived safely in the village of Tuba.

Later the same morning, at about 10am, a settler in a car from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, reached a group of five Palestinian children and one young woman, who were gathering herbs. The settler drove off the road towards the group  and the Palestinians immediately left  the valley to a safer area, where they waited with international volunteers.

About one hour later two settler children came from the illegal outpost with slingshots and threw stones towards the group. The same two settler children threw stones at a Palestinian shepherd and his children while they were grazing their sheep near the illegal outpost on February 28, and frequently practice with slingshots near the outpost.

International volunteers in the South Hebron Hills have documented an increase in settler harassment of Palestinians in recent weeks.  Many Palestinian families in the area make their living from grazing sheep and goats, and collecting herbs and raising  crops. Because the spring agricultural season is short it is essential that these families have safe access to their land at this time of year. Settler violence and harassment which limits Palestinian access to land during the spring planting, harvesting and grazing season impacts the families throughout the year.

The Israeli settler outpost of Havat Ma’on is illegal under both Israeli and international law, as are all of the Israeli outposts in the West Bank.

UPDATE: Palestinesi e  volontari internazionali attaccati dai coloni israeliani dell’avamposto illegale di Havat Ma’on

On the morning of February 14 Israeli soldiers detained a Palestinian shepherd who was grazing his flock on in a valley on Palestinian land near the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on, near the Palestinian village of At Tuwani in the South Hebron Hills.

The soldiers herded the flock and forced the shepherd to move into an area which is Palestinian land but which Israeli Authorities have declared closed to Palestinians. International volunteers observed the soldiers kicking a goat to force the animals to move. The soldiers detained the shepherd there for two hours until Israeli police arrived. Israeli settlers also entered the area from the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on and international volunteers observed the soldiers acting at the direction of the settlers.

The soldiers showed the shepherd a map which showed a small area of land where they told him he was allowed to graze his flock, however the land they showed him was isolated, with no direct path on which they would allow him to take his flock.

When the Israeli police arrived they released the shepherd and the flock.  Although all of the land surrounding the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on is Palestinian, settlers and Israeli authorities have outlined a band of land around the outpost and have forbidden the shepherds from using this land to graze their flocks. Settlers frequently call soldiers to harass Palestinian shepherds even when they are grazing their flocks outside that band, on land where their presence is clearly not forbidden. In this way the grazing area has been reduced, and shepherds who do choose to access the land face the possibility of attacks by settlers, detention, arrest, and the interruption of their work day.

All of the Israeli settlements, including the settlement of Ma’on, are illegal under international law. The outposts, including Havat Ma’on, are also illegal under Israeli law.

The shepherds were grazing their flocks near the village of Shabel Butum, when two settlers arrived, threw stones and beat the shepherds with sticks. The Palestinian shepherds were injured. One shepherd successfully returned home alone, but the other had to wait for Operation Dove volunteers, because there were settlers on the route.

On the same morning, a settler driving a  car came out from the Illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, going toward Palestinian shepherds grazing in the area. The settler, armed with a rifle, tried to reach them. The shepherds were able to move quickly away thanks to the presence of International volunteers.
