Update: elderly Palestinian sheperd arrested in the Beduin village of Umm Al Kheer on july 7
Elderly Palestinian shepherd Suleiman Aid Yamin Hadlin was arrested Sunday morning in the South Hebron Hills Bedouin village of Umm Al Kheer.
Palestinian shepherds did not graze their flocks Sunday morning, following their detention and subsequent release from the Kiryat Arba police station on Saturday. The shepherds were released following payment of bail and the signing of documents in which they committed themselves not to cross for fifteen days a hill on which settlers illegally planted olive trees and erected a shelter. The hill was declared a closed military zone by the Israeli army.
At 11am on Sunday Suleiman took his flock to a water cistern near Umm Al Kheer. He was approached by a military jeep arriving from the Karmel settlement, and three soldiers accused him of having entered the closed military zone.
To date no official document exists stating that the hill is not private land owned by Palestinians
Suleiman was released Sunday night. No charges were filed and he was not required to pay bail.
