UPDATE: First days of school in the South Hebron Hills

agosto 25, 2015 at 12:36 pm

August 24 was the first day of school in At Tuwani Palestinian village, in the South Hebron Hills. The school in At Tuwani gathers children from age 6 to 18, coming from the villages of At Tuwani, Al Mufaqarah, Ar Rakeez, Al Birkeh, Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed. For the 11th year in a row the schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed are coming to school and going back home escorted by the Israeli army. The road that connects Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed to At Tuwani, main gateway to the South Hebron Hills area, became impassable since 15 years ago Havat Ma’on Israeli illegal outpost was built next to the already existing settlement of Ma’on, leaving the road inbetween under continuos threat of violence for the Palestinians. The only Palestinians allowed on the road are the schoolchildren, twice a day, accompanied by an Israeli military escort established in 2004 to protect them from the violence of Israeli settlers.
