On March 28, some Israeli activists from Ta’ayush have organized an action in order to protest against the attack of masked settlers to a six years old child, that was injured last saturday. This afternoon, they were walking near the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on when some masked settlers came out from the outpost and start throwing stones toward them with slingshots. No activists were injured. When the Israeli police arrived a Ta’ayush activist filed a complaint against the settlers. In the last few weeks the settlers from the same illegal outpost harassed and attacked Palestinian people many times.

This afternoon, for the sixth time since the start of 2015, the Israeli military escort failed to arrive in At Tuwani village to escort the schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed Palestinian villages home on the road between the Israeli Ma’on settlement and the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. After waiting for more than one hour, the children decided to take the long path home with the Internationals. They walked through the same dangerous places where the last saturday a six year old child – present today – was injured by masked settlers.

This morning, the Israeli police seized a Palestinian man’s car permanently because he was driving on the Bypass Road 317 without the Israeli authorization, which is very expensive and difficult to obtain.
The networks of Israeli bypass roads are built in order to isolate Palestinian cities and villages, restricting in this way their freedom of movement.
The Palestinian decided to burn the verbal of the seizure in front of the police men as a clear signal of protest against unjust Israeli law.

Six years old Palestinian girl injured by Israeli settlers in the South Hebron Hills

Settlers violence continue to target Palestinian children

(Italian follows)

March 22, 2015

At Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

P1070583On the afternoon of March 21, two settlers attacked two Palestinian girls, throwing stones to them and injuring a six years old child.

At around 3.20 pm, three Palestinian girls were collecting some herbs for family’s livestock in the nearby of the Palestinian village of Tuba. Two masked settlers coming from the Israeli illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on ran after the girls and threw stones to them, hitting a six years old child in the head and leg. The stones injured the little girl that was treated at the scene by an Israeli military doctor, almost two hours later. The little girl and his uncle went to Kyriat Arba police station in order to make a complaint against the settlers. Then the wounded girl was taken in the local medical clinic of Yatta where she was treated with four stitches to the wound on her head.

Palestinian residents of the South Hebron hills have suffered from the presence of Israeli settlers since the 70s. By occupying Palestinian agricultural lands and destroying Palestinian olive trees, crops and property the settlers seek to deprive the Palestinians of their main livelihood. Ongoing settler violence deprives Palestinian families of security in daily life, and restricts their freedom of movement.

On the same day, groups of settlers walked through Palestinian lands in this area, harassing shepherds and international volunteers during all day long.

Twelve days ago, three masked settler children coming from the same illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on, threw stones towards Palestinians children that were collecting herbs in Meshaha Valley, not so far from where the Palestinian girls were attacked. Four years ago, on the same day, the father of the little girl injured was stabbed by an Havat Ma’on settler in his arm and stomach while he was going to the village of At-Tuwani.

Despite attempts by settlers to force them from the area through violence and intimidation, the Palestinian communities of the South Hebron Hills remain strong in their commitment to nonviolent popular resistance against the Israeli occupation.

COMUNICATO STAMPA

22 marzo 2015

At Tuwani – Colline a sud di Hebron, Cisgiordania

March 18, 2015

At Tuwani – On March 17,  around 4 pm, Israeli soldiers detained a group of 10 Palestinian young men that were harvesting seasonal herbs in a Palestinian land near to the Israeli illegal outpost of Mitzpe Yair. After one hour the Israeli police arrived and arrested four of the Palestinians, taking them to Kiryat Arba police station.

March is the month in which Palestinians harvest this kind of herbs. Since the settlers, supported by Israeli forces, are attempting to annex the Palestinian land, even the simple activity of collecting herbs become dangerous, especially when the fields are located near to the Israeli settlements and outposts.

In the last two weeks International volunteers witnessed several settler’s attacks, army harassment and even arrest against Palestinians harvesting herbs on their own lands.

18 Marzo 2015

At Tuwani – South Hebron Hills, West Bank

On the morning of March 12, Israeli police arrested a Palestinian shepherd from At Tuwani village as he grazed his flock in the valley of Meshaha, near to the illegal Israeli outpost of Havat Ma’on.

At about 11 am, two Israeli soldiers came out from the outpost of Havat Ma’on and they stopped a Palestinian shepherd that was grazing his flock on Meshaha valley, accompanied by International volunteers. The soldiers held the shepherd’s documents until the arrival of the police, at about 12:15 pm. The Israeli police collected the charges from one settler, that witnessed the shepherd grazing his flock in a forbidden area. Although the mediation of the lawyers and the request of DCO intervention, in order to clarify the status of the challenged lands, the police decided to arrest the shepherd. At about 1:30 pm, the shepherd was taken to Kyriat Arba police station and he was released at about 4 pm.

The Palestinian lands in front of Havat Ma’on outpost, which is considered illegal also under Israeli law, are object of the outpost expansion. The Israeli authorities prevent the Palestinians from accessing their own lands, even when they try to respect the unlawful restrictions imposed by the occupying forces. It shows the specious nature of these measures focused on the expropriation de facto of the Palestinians lands.

13 marzo 2015

At Tuwani – Colline a sud di Hebron, Cisgiordania

Israeli military escort fails to guarantee safe passage to children attending school in At Tuwani village

(Italian follows)

March 10, 2015

At Tuwani – On the afternoon of March 9 the Israeli military escort failed to arrive in At Tuwani village to escort the schoolchildren from Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed Palestinian villages home on the road between Ma’on settlement and the illegal outpost of Havat Ma’on. International volunteers made multiple calls to the army but were told that the soldiers could not be reached.  After waiting for 45 minutes the children decided to take the long path home with the internationals.

On this occasion the children arrived home safely, at about 3:00 pm.  However, about 30 minutes later as the International volunteers were returning to At Tuwani on the same path they witnessed three settler children attacking Palestinian children who were collecting herbs on Palestinian land near Havat Ma’on. The settler children had their faces covered, and one was using a slingshot to fire stones at the Palestinians.  The Palestinians moved away, and there were no consequences for the settlers.

This is the fifth time since the start of 2015 that the Israeli military has failed to escort the schoolchildren from the Palestinian villages of Tuba and Maghayir al Abeed.  On each occasion the children have traveled the long path, which passes near the outpost of Havat Ma’on.  As the presence of masked settler youth on March 9 shows, this path is also dangerous, and the children are forced to expose themselves to the possibility of settler violence in order to move between their homes and their school in At Tuwani village.
